WORK to transform a 19th century public bathhouse in Jacobs Wells into a multi-purpose community arts and heritage hub is making good progress.
Although restoration of the building is not expected to be completed until 2029 people living near the old Jacobs Wells Baths were last month invited to a preview of Cast Light, a new immersive installation by the internationally known artists Squid Soap.
It was presented by Trinity Community Arts as part of the Bristol Harbour Festival Fringe.
The preview gave visitors a chance to see the Pump Room which has been closed for many years.
“We’re currently in the first phase of a long-term restoration programme to secure the future of Jacobs Wells Baths,” said Emma Harvey. of Trinity Community Arts.
“Following removal of asbestos the main roof has been stripped back and assessed, with a glazed roof lantern planned as part of the rebuild,” she said.
“This phase is on track to be completed by the end of September with scaffolding being removed later in the autumn.”
