Members of Clifton and Hotwells Improvement Society (CHIS) are inviting people to the dedication of a commemoration plaque of a most unusual event in Bristol.
The city had its own dinosaur whose fossilised bones were found in 1834 in a quarry on Durdham Downs. It was later named Thecodontosaurus. It was the fourth dinosaur to be named.
A green plaque commemorating the discovery will be dedicated by Peaches Golding, Lord Lieutenant of Bristol.
There will also be a short talk by Professor Michael Benton, Professor of Vertebrate Palaeontology, at Bristol University’s School of Earth Sciences.
The dedication ceremony will take place at 9 High Street, Clifton, at the junction with Quarry Steps. It takes place at 11am on September 19.
