Growing Space given £17,000

An allotment site which has been running for a year in a car park at Clifton Down is to be extended thanks to a £17,000 grant from Bristol City Council.

Currently 40 raised planter beds for growing flowers and vegetables are installed behind Clifton Down Shopping Centre

Clifton Down Community Community Association (CDCA) is behind the project which is known as Clifton Down Growing Space.

“We are thrilled to have been given this grant as it enables us to put in another 100 planter boxes and also install a permanent water supply,” said Merche Clark, a member of the Growing Space team.

“With a growing interest in food cultivation and a significant demand for allotments in Bristol, this project presents an opportunity for people to develop their gardening skills,” she said.

The grant comes from the city council’s Community Infrastructure levy which is charged on new developments.   It is used to fund public facilities which support growth in the city.

The site belongs to the Sovereign Group which has let Clifton Down Growing Space use it.
