Artist Wendy on her mettle

MORE than 120 artists from printmakers to oil painters and from photographers to ceramicists displayed their work at the 19th annual West Bristol Arts Trail.

The two-day event was spread over 34 venues in Clifton, Clifton Wood and Hotwells. Some of the artists opened their homes and studios to visitors while others displayed their exhibits in churches, schools and offices.

Some of the artists return year after year with new work to display. One of them is Wendy Gyles who describes herself as as a Scrap Metal Artist. “I make creative sculptures for the home and garden” she said.

One of her items that caught the eye of visitors to St. Paul’s Church in St. Paul’s Road, Clifton, was a crocodile which was made from parts of an old motor-cycle that had been scrapped.

“I enjoy using different metals as they add colour and texture to my pieces of work. I am always looking for discarded metal while walking my dog around the streets of Bristo, l” said Wendy.

The West Bristol Arts Trail started after three mothers met outside the school gates at Hotwells and talked about starting the event.
