Plaque to honour actor Trevor Howard

CLIFTON and Hotwells Improvement Society  (CHIS) is to honour the actor Trevor Howard, who was a student at Clifton College, with a commemorative plaque.

After leaving the college Trevor Howard went to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. In 1945 he achieved leading man status in the film Brief Encounter.

Trevor Howard died in 1988 aged 74.  In his will he left funds to set up a drama scholarship at Clifton College.

A green plaque honouring Howard will be installed at the college’s Redgrave Theatre in Percival Road. It will be unveiled by Peaches Golding, the Lord Lieutenant for the County and City of Bristol on September 13 at 11am.

• The Redgrave Theatre was one of the first purpose-built school theatres in the country and was opened in 1966.
